In the coming years, significant demands will be placed on this sector, often introduced without considering the specific circumstances of local authorities. The same regulations are applied to everyone, regardless of size, location, or capacity. Waste management in our municipality calls for a clear policy and sensible solutions. The current reception station fits poorly with its environment, and its operation does not belong there in the long term. We see Fjárhúsavík as an ideal location for a new, state-of-the-art reception station. There is ample room for development, a suitable distance from residential areas, and the space to manage this sector for the foreseeable future without causing a nuisance. Furthermore, the local impact—such as odors and visual pollution—would be minimized within the town.

Utilizing Technology and Environmental Protection
We want to utilize the equipment already available. By pressing and baling all household waste using the press the municipality already owns, we can save up to 90% of landfill space. Creating bales provides valuable flexibility; they can be landfilled much more efficiently, stored for later incineration, or sent for incineration when the opportunity arises.
